Between Mask and Heart by Jay Jeong un Yang

I created a song using Suno titled 'Between Mask and Heart', and it was made as a gift for Park Hyo Shin. The lyrics were inspired by the Shakespearean play 'As you like it'.

The artwork featured in the videos was created by me using ChatGPT.

 Lyrics:

Verse 1

Everyone rehearsed their perfect lines
Like actors waiting in the wings
Trading truth for polished smiles
And carefully delivered things
They dressed their hearts in borrowed roles
Learned when to enter, when to leave
I played along, I knew the cues
I knew what I was meant to be

Pre-Chorus

But then you laughed without direction
Spoke without checking who could hear
And in that unprepared moment
Something honest settled here

Chorus

The world is a stage, they say
Everyone plays their part
But you spoke like no one else was watching
Like sunlight breaking through the dark
So I choose you anyway
Through every mask and masquerade
In a life of scripted gestures
You’re the only truth I’ve never played

Verse 2

Some wear wisdom like a costume
Some perform sorrow, some perform pride
Heroes crafted for approval
Villains safely kept inside
But you never shaped your story
To make yourself appear more kind
You let the pauses hold their meaning
You let the silence speak your mind

Pre-Chorus

No grand entrance, no declaration
No practiced grace, no clever art
Just the steady kind of presence
That gently rearranged my heart

Chorus

The world is a stage, they say
With entrances and exits planned
But you stayed when the lights were fading
And quietly reached for my hand
So I choose you anyway
Not the role, but what is real
In a world of endless performance
You’re the only truth I feel

Bridge

Maybe I’m still learning
How to set my costume down
How to speak without protection
How to stand without a crown
But when I forget my practiced posture
When my voice forgets its tone
You don’t ask me to be brilliant
You just ask me to be known

Final Chorus

The world is a stage, they say
And we all learn how to pretend
But you love me in the unscripted moments
Not the version I defend
So I choose you anyway
Not for how you look or sound
But because among all actors
You’re the only one unbound

Outro

If life is only theatre,
Then let the audience believe what they will do—
I’ll play every part they ask of me…
But I will always step offstage for you.
